Mental Note

It has taken 164 days for the feelings 'Oh man! It's over! I'm not a student of BITS Pilani Goa anymore, those were the days, etc.' to sink in. Don't like it. It's weird.

A-Z

Imagine a hypothetical situation in which X is a student in BITS-Goa, which has awesome mess food, but for some weird reason X missed all the meals and it is 18.30 in the evening. Oh and X also has an exam the next day so X needs to stay up all night and study to get a decent grade. This is also one such situation where X actually cares about the grade. Ok, now X's friend (Y, who also has the exam) and X set out at 20.00 hrs to see what's in the mess for dinner and decide that they don't want awesome food and that they are ready to sacrifice it for some mediocre food. Now, they contemplate between J and N and decide that N is a better alphabet and go there, make a disgusted face seeing the food available there. The two of them then wonder about the other open options and decide that the next best alphabet and the one closest to N is of course, M. M has the usual food and nothing extra ordinary. Oh oh, now Y gets a brainwave that this place, lets call it S, has Top Ramen and that they both should try it. So they walk all the way to S which is farther than the J by the way. When they reach there, all they see are Maggi packets. (Tomato flavoured X-|, X hates tomatoes) Y buys soap, as usual. (X suspects that Y eats soap when hungry because she buys them at the rate of 5 a month). Options options... Food could be ordered from P which gets delivered at the campus at 10.30 pm. That looked like a very good option. After a long discussion they finally managed to decide on what to order. Ah sadly, this wasn't the end of story. They don't have the number of P and so X messages 2-3 friends and no one replies. And, finally when they do get the number they realise that it's too late and P doesn't take orders after 21.00 hrs. Sigh! The two of them laugh at their pathetic situation and decided to settle for Bread, cheese and jam as their dinner. :-|

Not so Fool-Proof :-/

Just when I got to thinking that the 1st of April went without any "mishaps", I was proved wrong. 4 of us (2 high, 2 sober) were peacefully sitting in a restaurant in Vasco and one of us(X) gets a call from a friend(Y) in College. X answers the call, face growing tensed by the minute, tells us that Y and another friend got caught (and disco-ed) at the gate and that the 'mascot of vodafone' was at the gate checking and at least 15 people were caught. All of us get very worried and wonder how to make it in safely. None of us realised that it was April 1st and this would make the perfect prank! We come back to find nothing, and only later did we realise the whole plot :-/. The first time that I was on the falling-for-a-prank side (as far as I can remember).
Hope y'all fell into/devised some pranks that were successful!

Hop on, Hop off

Less than 15 min after getting off the train in Chennai, I saw this bus that said 'Hop on, Hop off'. On asking mom what it is, she vaguely said some Chennai tour thingy and that the tourism department has introduced one to Mahabalipuram too. I make a mental note of this, forget all about it within a few minutes, get home and start planning for the Pondicherry trip (Plan-A) which was long due. Due to technical glitches I realised that the trip isn't exactly possible. So, I started looking for a Plan-B. Then I decided to find out more about this 'Hop on, Hop off' tour (I'll call it HoHo henceforth, kinda sounds like Santa doesn't it?:)) ', I didn't really understand how this worked, called a couple of numbers, wasn't happy with the answers the TTDC officials gave, finally decided to go to Mahabalipuram!
The whole HoHo tour has buses at 1 hr intervals and has a number of stops (tourist locations) on the way (11 to be precise). We could get down at any of these spots and take the next bus that comes on the way. The whole thing didn't start off well 'coz we had to stand in the 1st leg of our journey. We hopped on at Thiruvanmyur and hopped off at Dakshina Chitra which is like a center for promoting art/traditions of south India. Interesting place and has a nice craft bazaar. Roamed about for 2 hours and then decided to go to crocodile bank from there (skipped some water ride thing and sea lion show in between). Oh my god! I've NEVER seen SO MANY crocodiles in my life! A cage/pool contained abour 400 crocodiles! All just lazing about all day. Crocodiles are lazier than me for sure! After this, we directly went to Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram and I was certain that the heat'll kill me. Humidity just made things worse. Summer is NOT the time to visit these places! The Shore Temple is now under the Archeological Surbey of India and was maintained lots better than what it was a few years ago. After a late lunch there, we moved on to the Five Rathas. Brilliant sculptures built on a single rock, eons ago! Simply marvellous!
Ah, I'd like to mention a small incident that happened when we were entering this place. All these tourist sites have different rates for Indians and foreigners (no clue why). Shouldn't they be happy and charge them less/same rate? Ok, we've decided to loot the ones that come from abroad. This lady (non-Indian) was wearing a saree, married to an Indian guy entered the place and walked a few steps . The security comes from nowhere and says 'madam you have to take a different ticket, this one isn't valid for you'. The lady was so bewildered when this happened. Atrocious, don't you think?! It just got me thinking on whether other countries behave the same way with their guests, are they as discriminating as we are? And soon after this it was time for us to get back. We boarded the bus and had a peaceful ride back to Thiruvanmyur. Nice experience on the whole, and punctuality of these buses definitely needs a special mention. They are on time at each location. And, the other locations I missed were- VGP, Mayajaal, MGM, Tiger Caves and a temple (don't remember the name)
No surprises that the journey from Mahabalipuram to T'myur took less time than from T'myur to T.Nagar thanks to the traffic, it was ten times worse because of the humidity, temperature and the crowded bus.
Chennai! :-/
(All those who want to start arguing about Bangalore being the same, don't! The weather there doesn't make you feel that you are going to drop dead any moment because of dehydration/heat and that wasn't the point of the whole post!)

Dear Diary,

Inferiority complex isnt something that ive always had but seeing the number of ideas my blogger friends have constantly and come up with some creative thing or the other, i'm beginning to wonder, should i let my blog sleep? Or should i use the tiny li'l thing in the head of mine called the brain and sacrifice some amount of sleep and peace that it can get? Anyway, it's been too long since i wrote anything decent, 240 odd days and so much has happened since. It is impossible for me to recall the interesting stuff and write about all that thanks to the memory of a goldfish that i have.

Yeah, finally coming to the title, a few friends of mine and I were discussing about how we maintain diaries and other stuff related to that. I am one person who definitely needs to maintain one constantly so that it'll be easier to recall things! How many of us maintain diaries (not an e-diary or some such thing)? Write things personal/can't be told to others/ something thats bothering us etc etc. in it regularly? Well, i don't think many people fancy writing to typing or paper to word these days. For me, its so much more satisfying to write something at the end of each day, be it the events of the day or something funny that someone said (dont i sound like joko , so darn vague! :P) or even some random thought that you recollect that happened ages ago. Naming a diary is not something that i've done so far (Nadine, is that you?) but doing that makes you feel like you actually are talking to someone. :-/. And, reading old diaries bring back such pleasant memories and tends to life your spirits, doesnt it? I still can't understand how an e-journal can substitute pen and paper! As usual, I cant think of a fitting way to end this post, it's been quite a while since i wrote anything, i better wipe the dust off my diary and write in that as well!

Toodles!

afternoon blah

Grass is always greener on the other side. So they say. They also say ignorance is bliss. What you don’t know won’t kill you and curiosity supposedly kills the cat. How are we supposed to find out about the ‘other side’ if these sayings ask us to contain ourselves with the answers that we have? Isn’t asking questions good? If yes, where’ll the answers come from? I think there’s this someone(who according to this other someone is very fishy) who will answer all of life’s unanswered mysteries ‘someday’. If not, we just have to ask them many simpler questions to find the answer to one big question. On the whole, they always like to confuse us don’t they?

p.s- 1st time i'm typing something in the section that says- Labels for this post : :-B

BLACK (or white?)

A common sight that you see outside a movie theater, especially if the movie is brand new or super-hit is people selling tickets in black. I've purchased tickets that way 2-3 times in the past, never did i experience what i did today.
Normal day to begin with. We went just in time for the movie only to see house-full board at the ticket counter. And, the guy at the counter said 'you should've come before 2 minutes'. Sigh! Wondering what to do we look around only to see mere baap pehle aap playing in the next theater. Throwing one another an expression of disgust we waited for don't know what. After a wait of around 30 minutes, we gave up.
We finally started walking out which is when there were these people who were chanting 'balcony balcony'. On being asked how much, he said '100 rupees madam'. My friend very smartly asked '100 rupees for 2 tickets?' (I couldn't suppress a grin because I knew (so did she) that the tickets costed 65 bucks apiece) . There began the bargaining. We said we were ready to pay him 160. He dismissed the idea without even considering our beseeching looks. With heavy hearts we began tracing our steps back to where we parked our vehicle. The guy who earlier said no to 160 rupees came running towards us and said 'give me 160 and take these tickets, the show is about to start'. We couldn't belive our eyes, readily gave the amount and walked inside the theater.
We went in the theater, the guy nicely tore our tickets, and then we happily went to occupy our seats and we found 2 other people already sitting. The guy who shows people to their seats asked us for our stubs and verified with those people and saw that they had the same seat numbers. He asked us how much we paid for these tickets. We said '80 rupees'. He grinned making us look worse by the minute. He later came and said ' these are tickets for the morning show'. We were stumped, felt extremely stupid and walked out hurriedly(with one half of the ticket) in a hope to find the guy who sold us the tickets. Hah! Like he'd lurk around, wait for us to come yell at him or whatever. End of story? No, not so soon.
Now that we didn't have any other option, feeling awfully cheated we walked towards the parking lot which is when we were approached by 2 people. One of them told me ' I want two tickets please give them to me'. The other one said 'no, no don't give him both, give me one'. The 1st man had already snatched the tickets from my hand, oh they weren't even tickets just the stubs, thrust 150 bucks in my hand and left in a jiffy. I was so shocked when he asked me for the tickets, even more shocked with how quickly it all happened and I had the 150 rupees in my hand. I still am very puzzled with the whole thing. There is something very wrong. But we were tensed-happy that we got our money back. All sorts of things started reeling in my head. What if that money was fake? What if it were some kind of a nasty business that we got ourselves into? Who was that man? Well, you know..
How strange do you think it is?

Make new friends
but keep the old.
One is silver
the other gold.

Mim, from The Guy Next Door

I dunno why i got reminded of that now.
Change is good, but how good is the question.
I've already blogged about how things have changed so much. Nothing is gonna be the same again. The people, the circle of friends, the hanging out part, the classes you attend and the people that you attend with, nothing.
Somehow at this point of time it just doesn't seen right, Birla uncle take away one entire year from the college life that we can have. Early goodbyes, work, money, project, intern is what these holidays have been about. It's not the just-lazing-around holidays. When do you have ps? Where are you planning to stay? What company? How much does it pay? When'll you come to Bangalore (or Goa)? Ah, I just wanna not go through all this a year before it actually should happen. Anyway, I just wanted my mind off this thing for a while so the post :) . For those of you who are going for ps, good luck and for the rest of you, enjoy the last (or the 2nd last) sem in college :)

Auf Wiedersehen!

P.S.- This will probably be my last post before ps. One or two of those stupid questions in my head might come up :P

P.P.S- I love that book ! :)

Err what?! :O

Few shocking things i've seen on tv in the recent past-
On some mtv programme on being asked who wrote the national song- the girl replied Subhash Chandra Bose. thats not all, she dint seem embarrassed or anything on saying something as foolish as that! What do these ppl learn in school?
More famous mtv roadies - qsn- whos the president of India? How can a person not know the president of his/her own country?
Answers that came up- Manmohan Singh, APJ Abdul Kalam, Sushma (I know its a lady but dunno the name.. i mean how on earth!).
Channel V Iq- people couldn't identify Pratibha Patil but most ppl could identify Esha Deol.. Tch tch
If this is the literate population of the country, we seriously are in grave danger! :-\
Oh this is something worse (happened in the US, pheww)- On the show beauty and the geek when someone was asked when the next presidential election is gonna be held, someone said 2006!!!!!

Peace!

alien kid?

whos this alien kid oink keeps talking about?
is there some hidden code that we are supposed to decipher?
does it refer to oink/any of us in the next birth? :P
am i the only person who didn't understand what he's trying to say?
is everyone else pretending to understand just cuz they dont wanna make a fool of themselves? :-\
too much star wars effect or something?

Cheers!
R2-D2 :P

mind block?

has it ever happened that you cant think at all?
even if you wanted to real bad ..
oh during an exam, your mind just goes blank and all you can remember is that it comes on this part of so and so page but nothing relevant to the answer comes to your head!?
ah this mind block(as i call it) also happens when you want something to happen so desperately and it doesnt! (you all know what i'm talking abt :-\) and this post which comes as a result of all that!

Remote Control

Such a fascinating thing!
how did people change channels on tv before it was discovered?
was it discovered before the tv itself?
one day the remote control stops working, no one even bothers watching tv that day! at least i wont! :P
if the remote control stops working do you people watch the same channel all day or do you have the patience to go change it on the tv? or how does the whole thing work out? :P

Cheersss!!

2nd exam today, opre. oh my gawd! amazes me to see myself forgetting simplest of things at the spur of the moment and screwing up any paper given to me.
ah 4 more exams to go and im outta this campus for a good six months. need the break more than anything else now. well, dont think anyone's gonna read this anytime soon, wont be relevant later but what the hell i'll just post it.

random thoughts

1 cdc sem gone, another going. I've been feeling extremely stupid for the past dunno how many weeks. Lack of knowledge, shirking off work to while away time just like that, not studying for tests and what not. This post is coming after i re-re-read ms's post (physic-ally impossible?) , test1, putting off sop work because of other stuff, test1 markswhich got me wondering. I talk to myself a lot these days(Oh, its not uncommon) about everything. These are the most frequent questions that i ask myself- What is this engineering all about? Is this what my reward was for studying my ass off for 2 years? Does Birla Institute of Technology and Science feel happy to see students whining and complaining (for lack of power, water.. yes yes we live in a forest)? Is this where I was destined to be? Have I gained an ounce of knowledge after coming here? Whatever so called education that we are getting here, is it enough to call ourselves engineers? What am i going to do? When am I going to stop feeling so stupid? What is going to happen? When is it all going to become alright, finally?

Peace.

zzxyz ccabc

I don't know how else to put this
It's taken me so long to do this
I'm falling asleep and I can't see straight
My muscles feel like a melee
My body's curled in a U-shape
I put on my best but I'm still afraid
Propped up by lies and promises
Saving my place as life forgets
Maybe its time I saw the world
I'm only here for a while
But patience is not my style
And I'm so tired that I gotta go
Where am I supposed to hide now?
What am I suppose to do?
Did you really think I wouldn't see this through?
Tell me I should stick around for you
Tell me I could have it all
I'm still too tired to care and I gotta go
I get to go home in one week
But I leaving home in three weeks
They throw me a bone just to pick me dry
I'm following suit and directions
I crawl up inside for protection
I'm told what to do and I don't know why
I'm over existing in limbo
I'm over the myths and placebos
I don't really mind if I just fade away
I'm ready to live with my family
I'm ready to die in obscurity
'Cause I'm so tired that I gotta go
Where am I supposed to hide now?
What am I suppose to do?
You still don't think I'm going see this through
Tell me I'm a part of history
Tell me I can have it all
I'm still too tired to care and I gotta go
I'm still too tired to care and I gotta go
I'm still too tired to care and I gotta go

Sounds familiar? Oh well, those are the lyrics of a song and I'm jobless so....... :)
Cheers! :)

LOL/hahaha/:D/:)

What is funny? A joke (all sorts- pj, sarcasm etc etc.)? A funny picture? Anything? Everything? Anything that makes me laugh need not necessarily be funny to all or vice-versa. Why do we all laugh? That’s another question. Anyway, this topic all of a sudden because today was one of my laughing days —I laugh for no reason at all, I find everything funny. Does that ever happen to any of you? Do you find every damn thing that your friends say amusing? Do you find yourself laughing looking at a non-living thing (read comp screen) at any point of time? Do you actually lol when you type that anytime? Do you sometimes laugh before even realizing what the situation is? Do you sometimes laugh when you’re not supposed to? Have you ever gotten into an embarrassing situation because the timing of your laughter was inappropriate? Oh I could go with a million such questions. The point of it all is the fact that I love to laugh (with or without reason) and am a strong believer in “laughter is the best medicine”. Even a smile at times could work wonders. What was the point of this post? Ah, nothing, as usual, lol.

Peace!
