Err what?! :O

Few shocking things i've seen on tv in the recent past-
On some mtv programme on being asked who wrote the national song- the girl replied Subhash Chandra Bose. thats not all, she dint seem embarrassed or anything on saying something as foolish as that! What do these ppl learn in school?
More famous mtv roadies - qsn- whos the president of India? How can a person not know the president of his/her own country?
Answers that came up- Manmohan Singh, APJ Abdul Kalam, Sushma (I know its a lady but dunno the name.. i mean how on earth!).
Channel V Iq- people couldn't identify Pratibha Patil but most ppl could identify Esha Deol.. Tch tch
If this is the literate population of the country, we seriously are in grave danger! :-\
Oh this is something worse (happened in the US, pheww)- On the show beauty and the geek when someone was asked when the next presidential election is gonna be held, someone said 2006!!!!!

Peace!

well, I wouldn't say anything regarding literacy after just watching these programs. They are meant to entertain, and out of the 100 who they ask, 5 give absurd answers and those 5 are the ones caught on camera and shown. so, doesn't prove any point.

hey except for the 3rd one the other two were the ones that featured the contestants who are supposed to be representing the younger generation of the country!

lolol.. I feel so smart, bless them! But when u actually think about it, is it that big a deal, really? ur saying it is? think some more and reply again! (repeat till u say nah, no biggie). If their boss doesnt mind their gk(or lack thereof) and will pay them for whatever it is they do know, anyway, and if they dont mind that half the tv-watching population thinks they're bimbos, - well, then, it doesn't matter. I doubt Chaterjee or Pratibha Patil would mind very much

Ah they wouldnt mind but you should know the basic stuff about your country, dont you think? well, i think so!

whoa no comments when i started typing that one, and its the 6th when i hit publish! :B
and ya, i think so, so i know. they apparently dont think so, so they dont bother. to each their own :)

Yes. Sad indeed. One needs to know about the country. Its just amazing as one settled-in-US-recently-got-citizenship relative of mine, was easily able to rattle of stuff about US anthem and flag and history (they are made to learn that before being given citizenship) and unable to even answer simple questions about India or its geography, history, culture or anything. Useless I say. Its not about Patil or Chaterjee minding. Its about some self-respect one gets in knowing about the country one is a part of. Dont agree with ripvan there n go with giz. Waise, you watching MTV and V ? My God! Brave heart...coz whenevr ive tried to tune into them..all i see is some dumb roadies or miss tenn or team diva or some such shit goin on.
Cheers. N its awesome that u r blogging again! (writing..I mean)
PS: Thats a loooong comment! :P

Haha..Same here. But you do know that the Beauty and the Geek ppl are told to be dumb so that the geek can actually me made to look smarter. Its all relative.

V IQ rocks. Its fun to see the youngsters strutting their stuff in the swanky malls and not knowing the spelling of 'sincerely' and not knowing which country UN 'belongs' to.

I just had to google the current president. So much for that.
